Police Issue Summer Theft Warning

Police across the country are reminding householders not to be duped into a false sense of security on the back of the warm weather we are having in the UK

Whilst the natural instinct is to leave windows and doors open to allow air into your home, opportunist thieves may take advantage of the situation and attempt to grab and steal valuable household items.

Police have encouraged the public to be extra vigilant with such things as leaving your door open, particularly if you leave your car keys within arm’s reach. The police are also reminding the public that even if you are outside or nearby, it is still important to keep sheds and garages shut and locked at all times, to avoid the risk of items being stolen. DHF launch guide to door security

The Door & Hardware Federation, in partnership with the Glass & Glazing Federation, has launched its most comprehensive guide to domestic door security.

The ‘Best Practice Guide for Specifying Security Hardware for Doors’ has been produced for tradesmen and companies working within the door, security, building, glazing, window and locksmith industries.

Included in the guide is a detailed description of which locks and security products meet the required standards, including multi-point locks and the most up to date versions of electro-mechanical keyless locks. Advice and direction on components such as cylinders, door security handles, door restrictors, viewers and letterboxes is also presented in the guide, which can be downloaded from the DHF website. Man traps finger in Garage Door

Emergency services were called to a property in Tilehurst, Royal Berkshire, to free a man’s hand that was trapped in a garage door. The main, in his early 20’s was taken to hospital with a badly injured little finger.

Firefighters and Ambulance Services were called to the property on Fairford Road at around 1.20pm and took about 40 minutes to release him from the garage door. (more…)

Look Secure: Be Secure

Forget locks and bolts; the best form of security is to ensure nobody attempts to break in to start with. If nobody ever tries to break into your garage, you don’t even need lock your garage door to keep your possessions secure! Of course, the big problem is that you never know whether or not anybody will to try to break in, so you need security just in case they do. Of course, the more obvious security you have, the less likely anybody is to try to break in. It’s an unfortunately ironic situation; the garages that can best withstand break-in attempts are the ones that aren’t likely to suffer them!
