DHF launch guide to door security

The Door & Hardware Federation, in partnership with the Glass & Glazing Federation, has launched its most comprehensive guide to domestic door security.

The ‘Best Practice Guide for Specifying Security Hardware for Doors’ has been produced for tradesmen and companies working within the door, security, building, glazing, window and locksmith industries.

Included in the guide is a detailed description of which locks and security products meet the required standards, including multi-point locks and the most up to date versions of electro-mechanical keyless locks. Advice and direction on components such as cylinders, door security handles, door restrictors, viewers and letterboxes is also presented in the guide, which can be downloaded from the DHF website. Michael Schumacher to help drive growth for Hormann

The world’s most successful racing driver of all time, Michael Schumacher, has been recruited by the Hormann Group as an ambassador for their brand. The long term partnership will see Schumacher represent Hormann for various promotional events and projects.

Fifteen Garages broken into in one night

On one night last week, thieves broke into and stole the contents from 15 garages in a small village near Bolton, Lancashire. Items taken included bikes, tools, fishing equipment and garden furniture.

The victims of the theft woke up on Sunday morning to find their garage doors had been forced open, and whilst larger items had not been taken, many smaller items such as tools had been the target. (more…)

Man traps finger in Garage Door

Emergency services were called to a property in Tilehurst, Royal Berkshire, to free a man’s hand that was trapped in a garage door. The main, in his early 20’s was taken to hospital with a badly injured little finger.

Firefighters and Ambulance Services were called to the property on Fairford Road at around 1.20pm and took about 40 minutes to release him from the garage door. (more…)

Hormann going to the shows

Garage Door manufacturer Hormann, has confirmed it will be exhibiting its portfolio of garage door and gate products at the National Homebuilding & Renovating Show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Running from the 21st to the 24th of March, the show is the UK’s biggest dedicated self-build and renovation event, featuring suppliers from all around the world. The exhibition will also be a centrepiece for buyers to get ideas, information, help and advice from leading industry experts.

Fit a cat flap to your garage door this winter

Having a cat flap or dog flat fitted to your front door can have its disadvantages. In the first instance, some flaps can look a little unsightly and secondly they can sometimes cause a draft, which becomes an issue during the winter months.
If your garage is attached to your home and you have an access door into your house, a better option might be to fit a cat or dog flap to your garage door. Hormann launch new BiSecur hand held transmitters

Leading Garage Door Manufacturer Hormann, have launched a new range of hand held transmitters for opening their automatic garage doors. Called ‘BiSecur’, the remote controlled devices feature the same bi-directional FM radio signal and 128 bit encryption used by banks for online security. The new technology therefore offers customers unrivalled security, signal strength and extended operating distances.

One of the advantages of the new handsets is that it has a remote status query, which will tell you whether your garage door is open or closed, signified by a red or green LED light.
