I don’t want to fear-monger, but Christmas time always sees a radical leap in the number of thefts and home break-ins. The simple fact is that households tend to have more items of value on obvious display during the festive season and burglars know this is the case. Yet not all break-ins involve broken windows and damaged doors; a huge number of burglaries occur because people simply don’t think to lock their garage doors! The worst part is that, at this time of year, when many families use the extra space in the garage for storing Christmas presents, burglars can get their hands on all kinds of expensive items, without even having to get through a locked door!
It’s easy to understand; if you use your garage multiple times a day, as many of us do, it can be a real annoyance having to unlock it every time you want to open the door. Yet – and this is especially true at Christmas time – garage doors are amongst the first thing that burglars will try, especially when the garage is an extension to the main house. By allowing a burglar access to your garage, you are allowing them the chance to break into the rest of your house without anybody seeing them!
Don’t let yourself fall victim to an opportunistic burglar this Christmas – keep you garage door locked!
