The door hardware federation (DHF) has recently launched a new website (http://ts007.dhfonline.org.uk) that provides vital information to householders about protecting their homes and garages against the latest forms of cylinder attack.
The website suggests that if you are concerned that your windows, front door, back door or garage door does not meet the latest security standards then call in a professional to assess the problem and identify what needs to be done to bring the locks up to scratch.
The new website was launched on the back of recent publicity about criminals using lock attack methods gleaned from websites, in order to break into homes. One programme in particular revealed that over a quarter of burglaries in West Yorkshire are thought to have been committed by criminals using the latest lock techniques.
Advice on the website suggests that if the lock on your windows, doors or garage doors does not meet the PAS 24 standard, then you could be at risk. By upgrading to the latest lock cylinders and handles, criminals will find it much more difficult to drill, pick, bump, snap or extract the lock.
Commenting on the situation, DHF general manager Michael Skelding said: “There has been an upsurge of interest in domestic security following the recent publicity. We have been working closely with the police and the security industry for some time to establish new security standards and to produce improved security products.
“This new website has been designed to give the consumer clear and simple advice on what they should do to protect their homes and so we expect locksmiths and security professionals to receive many inquiries from householders wanting their security to be checked.”
